The most revealing thing about the Dakota Access Pipeline is that the original route was just slightly north of Bismarck, ND, but it was moved because a pipeline spill would affect the city of Bismarck. So they moved it south, through the Sioux reservations, because who cares if a bunch of indigenous people don’t have clean drinking water, right?
It amazes me that there is so little coverage and acknowledgment of what is happening in North Dakota. Lately, there has been an explosion of news articles, blogs, comments, debates on human rights when it comes to women, LGTB , and African Americans. However, unless you actively read the news there is little to no coverage being brought to the attention of people regarding what is happening to the Native American tribes living in North Dakota. How can we talk about injustice and human rights and not acknowledge the mistreatment of the people fighting to protect what little-sacred lands they have left?
