I took some time out of my day today and decided to give mindfulness another try. I ended up going to YouTube and trying a guided meditation led by Jon Kabat Zinn called sitting meditation.
Jon Kabat Zinn is an expert in mindfulness and his mindfulness practices were what my group ACT therapy at Bayless Healthcare was based on. It worked very well at the time for my anxiety and I am slowly going to try to make it a part of my everyday life again. He has a very calming voice so I highly suggest you check out some of his guided meditations on YouTube.
Mindfulness for those of you who don’t know is pretty much paying attention to what is happening the present moment. You calmly acknowledge and accept your thoughts and bodily sensations. Trying to focus on how you feel and push all the thoughts from your head. It’s very calming.
I am currently feeling very relaxed and even happy at the moment which quite honestly is a rarity these days. Hopefully, this time around I don’t hit too bad of a bipolar depressive episode because that’s what derailed my progress the last time I gave mindfulness a shot.
