The Rockets are sending Sam Dekker, Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, DeAndre Liggins, Darrun Hilliard, Montrezl Harrell, Kyle Wiltjer, a top-three protected 2018 first-round pick and $661,000 to the Clippers in exchange for Chris Paul.
Personally, I don’t understand this trade. Chris Paul doesn’t really fit in Houston because James Harden is the kind of player who needs the ball in order to play at his best. Chris Paul is the same way.
The Clippers didn’t get very much in return for the star NBA guard but they would’ve lost him to free agency anyway so something is better than nothing I guess. The main asset the Clippers received in return for him is that protected first-round pick.
Some people think that the Clippers were just being nice and trading Chris Paul so that he could have a chance at an NBA championship. If that were true though, they would’ve traded him to the San Antonio Spurs who wanted him, could give them a lot better things back and were one injury away from knocking off the Golden State Warriors.
This NBA off-season has been a weird one, to say the least. I personally believe the Clippers will be losing Blake Griffin as well and drop down to the lower end of their division. Houston however, won’t be as good as they were this year but should still make the playoffs as a fourth or fifth seed.
That’s my take. Let me know what you think of it in the comments.
