I was doing my normal social media checks today and was saddened to learn that two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair had been admitted into the intensive care unit of an Atlanta area hospital over the weekend with heart-related issues. Flair, who is 68 years old has been a part of pro wrestling for over five decades and probably the most charismatic wrestler who ever stepped inside the squared circle.
I didn’t really get into professional wrestling until the early 1990s but I did occasionally watch the WWF when I could find it on Saturday mornings. The very first memories I have of Ric Flair were his days in WCW which while pretty entertaining it was nothing like how he wrestled in his prime. Thanks to YouTube and the WWE Network I was able to discover just how great the Nature Boy and the Four Horsemen he led truly were. He really is a once in a lifetime talent and if you haven’t seen him in his prime do a YouTube search and you will be amazed.
I really hope he is able to make a full recovery and exit the hospital as we have lost far too many great wrestlers the last few years. To be honest, Hulk Hogan may get most of the fame and glory but if you see how the fans reacted to Ric Flair in his prime there should be no doubt that he should be referred to as the greatest professional wrestler of all time.
My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family but I know this guy is tough as nails. Even though he did have surgery today he survived a plane crash, the tragic passing of his son and so many other things I know he will be gracing us with more “Woo’s” on television for many years to come.
