Why I decided to stop taking my bipolar medication

I’ve been struggling with this for some time and decided that by January 1, 2018, I will no longer be taking medication for my bipolar disorder. Currently, I’m taking the following medication:

Lamotrigine 150mg Tablets twice a day
Quetiapine 200mg Tablets
Zolpidem 10mg Tablets
Vyvanse 70mg Capsules
Alprazolam 1mg Tablets as needed (I’ve needed it more than usual this week)
Duloxetine DR 60mg Capsules taken together in the morning

The current mental illnesses the doctor diagnosed me with are bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, severe generalized anxiety, and agoraphobia.

I may continue to use Alprazolam (Xanax) and Vyvanse a while longer, but other than that I want to cut everything out. I’m just sick of the side effects and the way they make me feel. Also, I have to factor in the fact my new insurance won’t cover as much as the insurance I have now so I really can’t afford these medications anyway.

I’m not stupid. I will reevaluate this after a little while as well as continue to see my doctor. I’m sure between my doctor and my wife we will be able to see if I need to go back on medication. I know it can be hard coming off of the mental health drugs, but I feel I need to.

Thanks for reading.
