Has your email has been hacked?
Unfortunately, spammers tend to use a variety of methods to send out a lot of spam. However, recently they started using hacked email accounts from legitimate users, and these accounts are shared on the dark web.
It’s pretty scary that 1 in 131 emails contain malware which has been designed to take over your email account. This malware, if you haven’t heard of it, is related to malware like Emotet and Trickbot stealing email addresses to feed spam campaigns.
How was my email hacked?
There are four common ways that you may have compromised your computer and allowed your email to be hacked.
1) You haven’t installed security updates from Microsoft to patch any holes they have discovered.
2) You have a very weak password that is easily hacked. The most common passwords are passwords like God, and your name followed by 123!
3) You may not have been careful and clicked on a malicious link in the email, instant message conversation, or even something shared on a webpage or social media site.
To check if you were compromised, I suggest you visit this site. If it shows your email has as compromised you should change it to something far more difficult are using a password creation program such as last pass or some other password protection programs found on the Internet.
Also, I suggest you only access the internet with a VPN like Nord or something else.
