The World’s richest couple are divorcing
Shocking news via Twitter today. The world’s richest couple and largest shareholders of Amazon stock Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos have mutually agreed to end their 25-year marriage.
They put out a joint statement via Jeff Bezos Amazon CEO’s Twitter account.
“After a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends,” the Bezos’ stated.
“We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other,” the statement continued. “If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again.”
Money can’t buy love
Unless you lived under a rock for the last few years you probably know that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is currently the world’s richest man with an estimated net worth of $137 billion. Since the couple did start Amazon together unless they somehow negotiate a strange agreement the divorce will probably be the biggest one on record.
What this means for the future of Amazon
As of now, there is no word on what impact this may have on Amazon or any of its current plans. However, the couple is still committed to their $2 billion pledge to fund existing nonprofits that help homeless families and create a network of preschools to help parents in low-income neighborhoods. The couple have four children and so far seem to be getting along as parents and friends and claim to be looking forward to continuing to work together.
