Caffe Bao in Tempe, Arizona is probably best known for serving rabbit for Easter dinner but now they have a new marketing idea for Christmas. Owner Jay Wisniewski is hoping the restaurant will be able to serve reindeer once again for Christmas for the second year in a row.
My opinion this is clever marketing because the public outcry over a dinner dish that they serve one day year will get their name out there and like the saying goes there is no such thing as bad publicity.
Apparently last year the reindeer was served with a little red nose and antlers as if there was Santa’s most famous reindeer Rudolph. This year they have a new fun little idea up their sleeve but wouldn’t go into detail other than saying it will evolve children.
I may not agree with Caffe Bao’s menu items but I applaud the creativity and how to go about getting free press in this tough economic time. Hopefully some other Phoenix small business owners will take note of this method and use it themselves in order to go up against the larger chain businesses.
