My cousin unexpectedly passed away yesterday

You never know when it’s your time to go. Please remember others love you and will miss you.

I was saddened to learn one of my cousins passed away yesterday. Growing up we were in my opinion pretty close, but when my uncle moved to Washington, we lost touch and hadn’t seen each other in a few decades. Sure, we talked online from time to time mostly discussing our battles with some of the same issues and life in general.

He was a few years younger than me but was very bright and showed a lot of promise in many fields. Unfortunately, like too many people today he was taken in by the addictiveness of drugs and had a difficult time staying away from the drug scene. He did try. I know he wanted to be off of them entirely for his daughter. He even completed Teen Challenge which is a Christian organization that is pretty successful in helping people get their life’s on track and stay away from the drugs.

See you in heaven

I had my last conversation with him a few months ago, and he seemed quite a bit down. Although he was trying his best to stay clean other people in his life especially from church wouldn’t allow him to forget his past. While recovering from drugs was part of his testimonial some of the teenagers he knew would not let him forget his past and even sometimes called him a druggie. Those words hurt him badly, and he also told me that he was tired of being the disappointment of the family. He also occasionally wished he did not exist. I know those feelings and felt we had a good talk, but unfortunately, we never spoke again after that. Now it’s too late.

Oddly enough I did have a few dreams about him this past week. I dreamt about our time on our churches Bible quiz team, playing in my uncle’s yard together, and even going to his dad’s church on Sundays. Maybe this was some force trying to nudge me into contacting him again. We will never know, but now I do feel guilty and am genuinely saddened for his daughter and the rest of his family.

I didn’t mention his name in this post because quite frankly I think it would be pretty rude of me to do so. Also, I’m not sure if everyone has found out yet in my family and it would be horrible to find out this information via the Internet.

Thank you for reading and make the most of every day because you never know when your time will come. RIP Cousin!
