Growing Pains star Kirk Cameron called homosexuality "Detrimental and Destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization" earlier this week and I thought I'd put up a short post and share my two cents since my opinion is just as valid as that of a former child actor turned minister. First off before I share my viewpoints I would respectfully like to point out to my fellow Christians that people who deny others the blessings they claim for themselves should never assume that their viewpoints are in fact the same as the Lords.
Christians have in fact always argued about marriage. Even Jesus criticized Mosaic law on divorce, saying "What God has joined together let no man separate." Yet we don't see church leaders calling for a ban on divorces only a ban on gay marriage.
Most people who go on the religious crusade against gay marriage always seem to tout Old Testament Scriptures that speak out against gay marriage and that's fine but let me point out a few other Old Testament Scriptures and you tell me if Old Testament law still applies today:
Every Scripture I'm going to post here will be found in Leviticus chapter 19:
13 "You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of a hired worker shall not remain with you all night until the morning. (So does this mean that nearly every person who owns a company violates God's law?)
19 "You shall keep my statutes. You shall not let your cattle breed with a different kind. You shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor shall you wear a garment of cloth made of two kinds of material. (looks like most of us who dress in modern clothing are breaking God's law)
26 "You shall not eat any flesh with the blood in it. You shall not interpret omens or tell fortunes. (Oops I ate a rare steak I just broke Gods Law)
27 You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard. (So haircuts are wrong to)
28 You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord. (Far more people in the world today with tattoos than there are homosexuals)
I could go on and on but I think you get my point. I believe that when Christ died for our sins Old Testament law went out the window just as animal sacrifice did as Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice with his blood covering all our sins. Personally, I'm of the belief that all God cares about his love. He wants you love him and he wants you love your fellow man. If you act out of love then you never break any of his commandments anyway.
If you are someone who wants to marry a person of the same gender then I say if it makes you happy and you truly love each other then go ahead and do it. I love you and Christ and live by the Golden rule so I would like to see you happy and I'm sure as long as you're living a "Christian" life filled with love for others in the end regardless of what others may tell you or say behind your back you still are God's child and are doing nothing wrong.
