Wow look at me an actual real blog post today! If you’re a sports fan in Arizona with the NBA lockout, the Diamondbacks elimination and let’s face it the Coyotes not been very interesting you’re probably wondering what’s up with our NFL team the Arizona Cardinals. I mean we’re just a few years removed from a Super Bowl appearance and back to back NFC West championships.
In my opinion the main problem with the Cardinals is talent. Over the last few years we let too much of it leave maybe not for the same reasons as in years past but we still let them leave. I mean come on on offense do we have any real receiving threat other than Larry Fitzgerald? I believe our downfall came the day we traded Anquan Boldin that rift also showed that our coaching staff has a bit of an ego. That coaching issue came to light again with Matt Leinart and as yet to bee corrected.
You see coach Ken Whisenhunt benefited from the expertise at picking talent of former coach Dennis Green. I know what you’re saying Coach Green was horrible and that may be true but he was 10 times greater at evaluating talent than anybody currently on the Cardinals staff. In order to fix our problems we need more talent whether it be from the draft ( which will take a few years to develop players) or via free agency which means spending money. I personally don’t see this playing out well for coach Whisenhunt because with the high expectations that came after the Super Bowl appearance the Cardinals have failed to live up to even a modest level of expectation. At some point you gotta expect the players will start tuning out their coach and when that happens changes must be made.
Right now the Cardinals biggest need is another playmaker other than Larry Fitzgerald. We need somebody that can force the defense to play honest. We also need a lot of help in the secondary. I mean come on at least someone who can tackle a guy with the football, were not talking about a superstar just someone who has an average skill set. We suck! I’m being honest. Does that mean I’m going to stop watching them? No! I’m still a fan, I’m just saying that’s the on the field product needs a major overhaul. Perhaps the guy the Cardinals need to get rid of is Rod Graves after all as general manager shouldn’t some of the blame at some point be directed towards him? After all he is the one who determines who gets a contract and who does not.
